Clancy Cup Semi-Final – Rampart win 6-5 on penalties
Redeemer Celtic got the perfect start to this thrilling Clancy Cup semifinal in Sandy lane when Kevin McCormack fired to the top right-hand corner after just 2 minutes of play. Shortly after Rampart lost Paul Gray with a leg injury which saw him been hospitalised. Redeemers dominance saw them go 2-0 up with Thomas Daly hitting his 7th goal of the season, after they had twice rattled the woodwork.
On the half hour, Mark Ed Colts made it 3-0. Andy McDermott dispatched a 45th-minute penalty to send Fra Trimble led side into the break with a 4-0 lead. A minute into the second half Eedrif Akinade slotted home for Ciaran Pickering’s charges to make it 4-1.
Within 5 more mins. Declan Murphy found the roof of Kyle Murphy’s net to ignite a Rampart fight back. A Lee Wright reduced Redeemers lead to just a single goal with a well-placed effort on the 59th minute. A rocket of a shot from Anthony Lines drew Rampart level in the 63rd min. and he followed it up with a headed goal 3 mins. later to put Rampart ahead for the first time in the match. It took a stunning free-kick from Ryan McDonald to get Redeemer back on terms with 20 minutes left to play.
Both sides had chances to snatch a winner but neither side could find the elusive goal and so the game went to a penalty shoot out with Rampart prevailing 6-5 to reach their first Clancy Cup Final.
