Clancy Cup semi-final Bellurgan United 3 Quay Celtic 1

Quay Celtic had the misfortune to concede an early own goal when Conor Brennan headed past his keeper Luke Savage after 12 minutes. In 18 minutes the Quay keeper made a brilliant save to deny Daniel McDonald from putting Bellurgan two up.

Midway through the half Joe Needhams cracking shot came back of the post, preventing the peninsula side from going 3-0 up. John Smith with a simple tap in put Bellurgan 2-0 ahead in the 41st minute and Bellurgans dominance was rewarded on the stroke of half-time when Shane O’Brien made it 3-0. Quay Celtic came more into the game in the second half and they scorned several good chances before Robbie Mackin played in Ronan Cunningham to find the net with only 6 minutes of normal time left. This was Ronans 7th strike of the season, but it was too late for the Clancy Park side.

This win for Bellurgan United in Glenmuir Park sees them into their third Clancy Cup final. Their last appearance was in 1991 when they beat Muirhevnamor 9-8 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The previous year they lost 3-0 to Barrack Rangers.
