Bellurgan Utd beat Quay Celtic Fc 6-1 in the DDL Premier league at Flynn Park yesterday.

This league encounter was a rehersal for next Tuesday nights Clancy Cup semifinal in Glenmuir Park and on the evidence of Bellurgan’s comfortable victory, they must feel they have one foot in the final already. Peter Fisher got then off to a perfect start, finding the net after 2 minutes of play to put them ahead. Shane O’Brien added to the lead 5 minutes later, with his 4th strike of the season. Fisher struck again midway through the half, giving Luke Savage no chance with a great shot from distance. Right on the 45th min Martin Murphy made it 4-0 with a well placed shot.

The agony continued for the Quay on the resumption with Luke Higgins and Tadgh O’Connor finding the net in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to put the Flynn park side out if sight. A Barry Dunne goal in the 90th minute was the only solace for Quay. Although Quay had a few last minute withdrawals from their squad, the presence of Robbie Mackin and Ronan Cunningham in their side should have given Bellurgan defence a more testing time. This win moved Bellurgan into 4th place, 5 points behind leaders Redeemer Celtic, and Fane F.C. both on 12 points. Referee Gary Doyle issued 4 yellow cards one for the home side and 3 for the visitors in a very sporting contest.
